Audiolab 7000 Series CD Transport
Overview
If you already have a good DAC, or an amplifier with one built in, a dedicated CD transport is the cleanest way to bring your disc collection into the system. The Audiolab 7000CDT is a CD transport from Audiolab's 7000 Series that reads CDs and USB music files and sends the signal out through coaxial and optical digital outputs.
A high-precision optical system with a read-ahead digital buffer, very similar technology to the 9000CDT, reduces disc-reading failures and helps play scratched and damaged CDs that conventional mechanisms may not read. The transport sits in its own electromagnetically shielded enclosure with a dedicated power supply, on a low-friction loading tray and sturdy aluminum base and chassis that work against vibration.
A high-accuracy crystal oscillator controls the master clock for very low jitter on both outputs, and the coaxial output is fed from a differential line driver. A rear USB Type-A port plays WAV, AAC, WMA, and MP3 files from a storage device, and a 2.8-inch colour IPS display shows settings, format, folder, and track details.

The 7000CDT has no DAC or analog outputs, so plan for a digital input on the other end. The 7000A is the natural partner, sharing its 444 mm width and Black or Silver finish, with an ES9038Q2M DAC that takes the 7000CDT's coaxial or optical signal, and the 12V trigger lets the transport switch on automatically with the rest of the system.

How It Compares
The 7000CDT uses very similar read-ahead buffer technology to the flagship Audiolab 9000CDT, in a more compact 7000 Series chassis with a 2.8-inch display instead of the 9000CDT's 4.3-inch screen. If you want a built-in DAC, analog preamp, and headphone amp instead of a pure transport, the Audiolab 8300CDQ is the alternative.
