Audeze LCD-MX4 Over-ear Headphones - Planar Magnetic Studio Reference

Overview

The Audeze LCD-MX4 is an open-back, planar magnetic headphone built for studio mixing and mastering. It pairs a 106mm ultra-thin Uniforce diaphragm with a Double Fluxor magnet array rated at 1.5 Tesla, giving it very low distortion and tightly controlled bass. At just 20 ohms and 105 dB sensitivity, it's the most sensitive LCD model Audeze makes, running well straight out of an audio interface, mixer, or laptop headphone jack without a dedicated amplifier.

It's built on a lightweight magnesium chassis with a carbon fiber suspension headband, designed with feedback from professional engineers to prevent listening fatigue over long sessions.

Simcoe Audio Video Insight

Studio engineers reach for the MX4 when they need to trust what they're hearing without relying on a fully treated room. Its low impedance means you can plug it into almost anything and still get an accurate picture of your mix.

More Info

Why the Audeze LCD-MX4 Stands Out

Double Fluxor Magnetic Array

A 1.5 Tesla flux density, the most powerful magnetic circuit Audeze has built into a headphone, drives the diaphragm evenly for precise, well-controlled bass response.

Uniforce Voice Coil

Spreads the driving force evenly across the diaphragm for accurate detail retrieval and low distortion.

Low Impedance Design

At 20 ohms and 105 dB sensitivity, it's the easiest LCD model to drive without a dedicated amplifier.

Lightweight Magnesium and Carbon Fiber Build

A magnesium chassis and carbon fiber suspension headband keep long mixing sessions comfortable.

OCC Copper Cable

Ships with a 1.9m single-ended 1/4" cable using 20 AWG high-purity OCC copper wire.

Buyer's Guide

Who It's For

  • Home studio producers: anyone mixing or mastering without a fully treated room.
  • Working engineers: professionals who need a headphone they can trust to translate across systems.
  • Streamers and content creators: anyone monitoring audio directly from an interface or mixer without extra gear.

How It Compares

The MX4 is built for accuracy and easy driving rather than maximum scale, so if you want Audeze's most resolving open-back model regardless of how much amplifier it needs, the LCD-3 is worth a look.

Audeze LCD-MX4 Over-ear Headphones - Planar Magnetic Studio Reference FAQs

What makes the LCD-MX4 different from Audeze's other LCD headphones?

The LCD-MX4 uses a Double Fluxor magnetic array and a low 20-ohm impedance, making it the easiest Audeze LCD model to drive while still delivering the detail and controlled bass the lineup is known for.

Do I need a headphone amplifier to use the LCD-MX4?

No. At 20 ohms and 105 dB sensitivity, the LCD-MX4 is designed to run directly from an audio interface, mixer, or laptop headphone output without a separate amplifier.

Is the LCD-MX4 a good fit for gaming or casual listening?

It can be used that way, but it's built and tuned for studio mixing and mastering. If you want a headphone specifically for gaming or general listening, a different Audeze model may be a better fit.

What's included with the LCD-MX4?

Each LCD-MX4 ships with a single-ended 1/4" to dual 4-pin mini-XLR cable, a 1/4" to 3.5mm adapter, a travel case, and a certificate of authenticity with warranty card.
